This one-day workshop aims to:
- Provide Veterinary Physiotherapists with a detailed insight into the principles and use of soft supports, splints and orthoses for different conditions affecting the peripheral joints of the small animal.
- Introduce participants to the use of different splinting materials and how to ‘measure up’ and make your own carpal and tarsal support up to Grade 3 and assistive devices.
- Enable participants to confidently cast for a Grade 4 orthotic.

Diane has been a Chartered Physiotherapist for more than 23 years, having qualified from the University of Birmingham in 2002. Early in her career, she specialised in musculoskeletal outpatients and hand therapy, building the expertise and practical skills that would later become the foundation of her work in veterinary physiotherapy.
In 2007, Diane completed her Master’s Degree in Veterinary Physiotherapy at the Royal Veterinary College in London and launched her own private practice treating both equine and small animal patients. After several years balancing the worlds of human and animal physiotherapy, she discovered that small animals had firmly stolen her heart.
In 2011, Diane joined Davies Veterinary Specialists, one of Europe’s largest and most respected small animal referral hospitals, where she led the development of Therapy Services. This culminated in the launch of the Davies Therapy and Fitness Centre in January 2017, which now offers Physiotherapy, Hydrotherapy, Splinting and Orthotics, alongside a Pain Management Clinic that includes Regenerative Medicine and Acupuncture services.
Diane has a particular interest in the use of low temperature thermoplastic splints and orthotics for both post-operative rehabilitation and the conservative management of musculoskeletal conditions. Passionate about advancing the profession, she lectures nationally and internationally, contributes chapters to veterinary publications, and remains actively involved in teaching on Master’s and postgraduate Veterinary Physiotherapy programmes across the UK.
Since 2022, Diane has also served as a board member for the International Association of Veterinary Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy, collaborating with fellow practitioners and scientists from around the world to promote evidence-based veterinary rehabilitation and, ultimately, better patient care.
